3 Delicious V60 Methods to Start Your Day

From these past couple of years, coffee brewing has gained a lot of popularity. It is shown by a lot of coffee shops in a big city that also serves manual brew on their menu. Many people also like to brew their own coffee because it is cheaper, and the brewers can make their coffee according to their preference. There are many brewing methods homebrewers used including Pour Over, French Press, Aero Press, and even Cupping/Tubruk. Pour Over is one of the most popular methods for coffee brewers and V60 is the go-to device for most of them. This device was created by the Japanese brand HARIO, this V-shaped device allows the brewers to produce smooth and clean cups of coffee. Due to its popularity, there are many V60 methods, These are the best 3 V60 methods in my opinion.

Quick tips

Always grind your coffee before you brew. Get coffee/cooking scale, to make your coffee more consistent. If you don’t have thermometer, boil the water and then wait 2 minutes after it boils.

For this brewing method, we are going to use the V60 methods with a 1:15 ratio which means 15 grams of water to 1 gram of coffee. For the beans, we will be using Halu Pink Banana From space roastery. The temperature is 90oc.

4:6 Method

This V60 method is created by the 2016 world brewers’ champion Tetsu Kasuya. In this method, we divide the brewing into 2 parts of 40% and 60%. The first 40% is to control the sweetness and acidity of the coffee, while the last 60% is to control the balance of the coffee. The first 40% can be divided into 2 pours, the first pour is to control the acidity, and the second pour is to control the sweetness.

How to brew

Divide the pour into 5 parts

  1. 0:00 45g of water
  2. 0:45 45g of water
  3. 1:30 45g of water
  4. 2:15 45g of water
  5. 3:00 45g of water

Total brew time 3:30min-4:00min. By using this 4:6 method the brewers can get smooth, rich, and well balance cup of coffee.

You can adjust this recipe according to your preference. If you want the coffee to be more acidic you can pour more water during the first pour, if you want your coffee to be sweeter you can pour more water during the second pour. Feels your coffee a bit strong? You can decrease the total pour into 3 total pourings. You like your coffee strong? No problem, add some pour to six or maybe more if you want your coffee stronger. Just make sure you stay on the ratio and you’ll be fine

James Hoffmann V60 Method

This V60 method is created by 2007 world barista champion, James Hoffmann. This recipe uses a different ratio, he uses gram/Lt (60 gram of coffee/1lt of water) as the base of his recipe. For this method, we use 15 grams of coffee and 250ml of water.
